Scepter of Ottokar: the royal badge of Syldavia in resin
The scepter is reproduced with the proportions and ornaments of Hergé's drawing: the golden ball at the top, the handle worked in stamped metal simulated by resin painting, the precious stones in their setting. Hergé had designed this royal insignia with enough precision for the plot to work: a real object of imaginary medieval treasure.
The Les Icônes line treats the scepter as an object of goldsmithing: the painting restores the variations in color of the golden metal, the colored stones in their settings, the difference in texture between the handle and the ball.
The badge at the heart of the Syldavian intrigue
Without Ottokar's scepter, King Muskar XII loses his throne. Hergé built the entire narrative mechanics of Ottokar's Scepter around this object. Its official resin reproduction belongs to the register of pieces which only speak to readers who have read the album.
