Blue Lotus vase: Tintin's hiding place in resin

The potiche is represented in its exact proportions from Hergé's design: a large blue and white Chinese porcelain jar, decorated with dragons and peonies hand-painted on the resin, with Tintin visible inside through the half-open lid. It is one of the most faithful compositions of the Les Icônes line: the object and the character form a single volume.

The cobalt blue patterns on a white background are painted separately from the rest of the piece: dragons in flight, peonies in rosettes, geometric interlacing. The finesse of the brush on the matte resin reproduces the most refined Chinese ceramics of the 1930s.

Tintin emerging from the vase in The Blue Lotus is one of the most used images in Hergé's work. The composition Les Icônes makes it an autonomous showcase object: the vase exists without the context of the album, it does not need an explanation to function in a space.
