Pixi Blake reading, 250 copies: the officer in his Club armchair

Blake is sitting in his armchair at the London club, the brown leather back, the padded armrests, a document or newspaper open on his knees. The Pixi composition reproduces the armchair in its details: the English Chesterfield with its buttons, the leather simulated by the paint, the turned legs. Blake himself in his tweed suit, glasses possibly on his nose, the relaxed posture of someone reading.

The armchair is the most complex element of the composition: a structure with several planes, leather surfaces in different shades, embossed buttons. It’s the piece of furniture from Jacobs’s London interior translated into metal.
