Pixi Asterix The Middle Kingdom, 260 copies: the rickshaw with functional wheels
It is one of the most technically demanding compositions in the Pixi Astérix catalogue. The rickshaw is reproduced in metal with its two wheels which actually rotate on their axis: it is a mechanism assembled by hand, not a decorative accessory. Asterix and Obelix on board wear their costumes as officials of the Imperial Court, hand-painted with gold embroidery and Chinese headdresses from Uderzo's albums.
The rickshaw puller, in a coolie costume, is the third character in the composition: posture leaning forward, arms outstretched on the stretchers. Three characters, a functional vehicle, spinning wheels: this is the most ambitious composition of the Asterix series.
